Definition

Death of brain tissue due to inadequate blood supply or haemorrhage within the skull resulting in permanent neurological deficit with persisting clinical symptoms lasting more than 24 hours.

Claim Requirements

  • Confirmed by CT or MRI scan
  • Symptoms lasting more than 24 hours
  • Permanent neurological deficit documented

Exclusions

  • Transient ischaemic attacks (TIA)
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Migraine
  • Vascular disease affecting the eye or optic nerve
