Cancer

Definition

A malignant tumour characterised by the uncontrolled growth and spread of malignant cells and invasion of tissue. This includes leukaemia, sarcoma and lymphoma (including Hodgkin's disease).

Claim Requirements

  • Histological confirmation required
  • Must show invasion of tissue
  • Pre-malignant conditions excluded

Exclusions

  • Non-invasive cancers in situ
  • Basal cell carcinoma
  • Squamous cell carcinoma of skin (unless spread)
  • Stage 1A melanoma (less than 1mm thickness without ulceration)
  • CIN, VAIN, VIN stages 1, 2 and 3
  • Prostate cancer staged T1a or T1b (Gleason score less than 6)
